DES LIENS

A bond, for Plato, is beauty, or consent of form, for Socrates, is the Supreme Venustic of mind, for Timaeus a tyranny of the soul, for Plotinus a privilege of nature, for Theophrastus a silent deceit, for Solomon a hidden fire, or stealthy waters, for Theocritus is some dilapidated ivory, for Carneades a tormented reign, to me, it's a cheerful sadness, a sad cheerfulness.
Giordano Bruno (1548-1600)
